Baleswar orphaned girl gets helping hand

Published on:

A 12- year-old girl, who virtually turned orphan after losing her widowed mother lately, found solace after she was assured of Government compensation and facilities by social worker and BJD women wing State working president Subasini Jena. The minor, a resident of Nayabali village under Bishnupur GP of Baliapal block, has only her 70- year- old grandmother to take care of her following the demise of her parents. The father of the girl had died of cancer before her birth while her mother who was working as a pachika in an Anganwadi centre died of Covid recently. “I learnt about the plight of the girl from local village sources and media. The girl is in utter distress after losing both parents. She has none to look after as well as to win bread for her. Therefore, I went to her house and consoled her. Initiative would be taken to see how she gets all the benefits including education and healthcare etc under the Government schemes,” said Jena, adding that the orphaned girl wants to read and become a school teacher. It may be noted Jena, editor of monthly feature magazine ‘Rebati’ and wife of former Baleswar MP RK Jena, has been into the social and philanthropic services over a decade now. She has been conducting several services including mass marriages for economically weaker sections and helping people during the time floods, cyclones and Covid pandemic.
