The Sahadevkhunta police on Wednesday unearthed a 40-day-old murder mystery by arresting and court-forwarding the accused, who is none other than the 28-year-old wife of the deceased.
According to information, police had recovered the body of Pradip Das (36), a BPCl Grade III employee, from his rented house at Sahadevkhunta on September 14 and started investigation by registering an unnatural death case. Pradip’s wife Shanti had informed the police that Pradip had committed suicide.
Although police had suspected Shanti from the initial stage yet it had waited for the autopsy report before reaching a conclusion. Shanti, during interrogation, had told the police that she had a quarrel with Pradip on the incident day over some domestic issue.
She had said that while Pradip slept in a closed room alone, she along with their three children slept in another room.
After some time while she knocked on the door of her husband, she didn’t get any response. She said when Pradip did not receive her phone call she broke open the door and found him hanging from the bed’s mosquito net supporting bar. His neck was tied with two pieces of cloths.
“Shanti has been arrested on the basis of circumstantial evidences and the postmortem report,” IIC Paresh Rout said, informing that the postmortem report has stated that Pradip’s death occurred due to asphyxiation after throttling and there was no ligature marks on Pradip’s neck.
During investigation, it was learnt that Pradip was a native of Berhampur and Shanti was from Dhanbad. They had a love marriage when Pradip was posted at Dhanbad, police said.
