Baleswar medical college fate uncertain

The  services, including admission, in the Government medical college and hospital in Baleswar from the 2018-19 academic year have come under cloud due to non visit the MCI team. MP RK Jena maintained that he would apprise the Chief Minister and Union Health Minister about the concern of the district.

The medical college authorities were expecting the MCI team visit by end of March or in the first week of April, yet there is no trace of the team triggering apprehensions as to whether the medical college would take off as scheduled.

In a brief, MP Jena stated that non visit of the MCI team for unknown reason is a matter of great concern. He said he would vent the voice of the people in Delhi with the Union Health Ministry.

“I shall have talk with the Chief Minister and further with the Union Health Minister urging them to expedite the visit of the MCI team to inspect the medical college establishment and submit report. The certification of NOC of MCI would pave the way for its notification and further admission of the students from 2018-19,” said Jena. “After long years of agitations, we could get the approval of a medical college and hospital. The healthcare requirement for the region here is massive. The delay would lead to denying,” Jena said.

Medical college Dean PC Rath maintained that 118 doctors have been posted and request for visit of the MCI team was sent more than two months ago.

“I don’t know the exact reason why the team is not inspecting our unit .The deficiencies which were pointed out by the team during the last visit in the month of November last year are addressed. The college and hospital is ready to receive the team. I don’t think any Government can afford to keep such a huge number of doctors including senior residents and paramedic to be idle,” said Rath.

In the meantime, sources said that several organisations are planning to hold agitations on the apathy of the Centre.
