Baleswar man held for rape

The Jaleswar police on Saturday arrested a 52-year-old auto rickshaw driver on the charge of raping a 28-year-old woman several times in confinement. Accused Jagdish Pradhan of Birishpur in Baleswar district was court-forwarded and then sent to judicial custody after medical tests, police said.

Jagdish, known to the woman, offered a lift to her while she was going to a market from her village Gop on Thursday morning. But instead of taking her to the destination, Jagadish took her to a house in Agrawall Square despite her protest. He assaulted her sexually several times between Thursday and Saturday, the woman’s father said in an FIR. “The accused was nabbed yesterday and forwarded to court today,” said Jaleswar PS IIC Dillip Sahu.
