A much-hyped proposal, relocation of Balasore jail from the existing venue to the outskirts of the city has received the Chief Minister’s approval. In fact, the proposal of shifting of the jail was had been made by local MP RK Jena.

last year on November 9, he had sent a proposal to the Chief Minister justifying the need.

In his letter, he had said as the population of the Baleswar town had grown and further inflated with the visiting mass for various reasons, there was a need of public utility infrastructure.

Since there was a space bottleneck, several projects like park, garden, swimming pool, shopping mall , community hall , library  and shopping complex  couldn’t be established ,  Jena had mentioned.

Once the jail is shifted, there would be adequate space for these projects urging the Government to sanction Rs 20 crore to materialize the projects in the vacant place.

“The jail is situated over a 12- acre patch of land. Once it is vacated in the same patch, shopping mall, market complex, park, garden, swimming pool and other civil infrastructure could be constructed. I had urged Chief Minister Naveen  Patnaik for relocation of Balasore in view of the growing need of vacant space inside the town. In this regard last  year November , I had written a letter to the CM,” said Jena, adding a   probable patch of land has been identified on the outskirts of the city in Khantapara.”

The denizens of Baleswar, besides expressing happiness, said that the proposal once materialized, the maritime city would establish its prominence paving way for further growth.
