To review the preparedness to combat any flood situation, an emergency meeting was held by the district Collector here on Saturday. This meeting was held in view of a report received by the district administration from the metrological department that there could be very-heavy-to-heavy rains across the district for two days causing overflowing of rivers.
The meeting was presided over by Collector Ranjit Mohanty and attended by APD DRDA Anjan Manik, all BDOs and tehsildars and officers of the line departments. The emergency office will function round the clock with a control room. The officers were asked not to switch off their mobile phones and to remain alert at least for next 36 hours.
Fishermen have been asked not to venture into sea as it would be rough during these days. The district administration identified 136 GPs of 10 blocks out 12 as vulnerable to floods in the rivers such as Subarnarekha, Budhabalanga, Sono, Gangahar, Jalaka and Kansabansa.
“Every fortnightly, we are reviewing the preparedness for natural calamities. Since we received a report from the metrological department that there could be heavy rains in next 36 hours, a review meeting was conducted,” informed the Collector.
