Farmers led by Congress leaders kept the body of a deceased farmer and staged a dhrana at the Collectorate here on Thursday.
They demanded `10 lakh compensation for deceased farmer Ramkrishna Naya’s family alleging that Ramkrishna committed suicide due to crop loss and loan burden.
Ramakrishna (40) of Kusuda village under Bhograi block died on Thursday at the SCB Medical College Hospital while undergoing treatment for poison consumption. He had consumed pesticide on Saturday.
He had undertaken paddy crop in 2.5 acres of land on sharecropping basis and had borrowed money for the same, agitators said.
The dharna was on by the evening. Deceased’s wife was also present.
