Irate women here on Monday burnt a foreign liquor shop, located on the railway station road, and also damaged a desi liquor bhati there. The residents were demanding shifting of the liquor shop from the area and had submitted a memorandum to the district Collector.
A team of officials constituted at the instance of the district Collector inquired into the complaint and suggested for closure of the shop and the district administration had ordered for its closure. However, the liquor shop owner moved the Orissa High Court and brought an interim stay which prevented the administration to take further action. On being informed, the police and fire official rushed to the spot and doused the fire. No case was registered. “We are yet to receive a complaint in this regard,” said Town Police Station IIC PrasantaPattnaik.
