Balangir Sub-Collector, SDPO begin probe

With the tribals pressing for immediate arrest of the accused’s family, who in a brutal manner shaved the hair of a tribal girl in Balangir district, under the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocity Act, district Sub-Collector Bimal Chandra Mohanty on Thursday rushed to Paradhiapali village under Sadar block to probe the incident.

“Though the victim was not present in her house, we discussed and collected information from her family members about the incident. We will further examine the girl to ascertain the truth. Stern action would be taken against those found guilty in connection with the shocking incident,” said Sub-Collector Mohanty.

Though Balangir SDPO Saroj Mohapatra has started probe into the incident, the police have so far failed to nab the accused family as they are at large.

“We are investigating into the matter and will take due action against the accused only after conducting a proper probe,” said SDPO Mohapatra.

Notably, the 19-year-old girl was beaten up and her hair was cut off by a fellow villager in Pardhiapali under the Balangir Sadar police limits on a petty allegation of stealing a mobile phone on March 4. She filed a complaint at the Sadar police station on March 6.
