Incessant rains paralysed normal life in the Balanga area on Saturday. low-lying areas of Balanga, Kothausang, Uchhupur, Bamanal, Sainsasasan and Nuasantha gram panchayats weresubmerged.
Even, the Government Hospital of Balanga was inundated and rainwater entered into the Niramaya medicine distribution centre situated at the hospital compound damaging huge quantities of medicines.
Fifty thousand acres of cultivated paddy lands in the area were inundated by rainwater. This year, the concerned department had not renovated the drainage system in the area, for which the Nuagaon drainage system failed to discharge water from different villages.
Besides, some village roads of low-lying areas were also submerged. Vegetables like brinjal, cucumber, bitter gourd, long beans, pumpkins and papaya were totally damaged in rains in Naruda, Parbatipur, Kolitala, Uchhupur, Nuasahi, Gadach-andapur and other villages.
