Bal elected RBA president unopposed

Senior lawyer Ramesh Bal was elected unopposed as the president of Rourkela Bar Association (RBA) after the scrutiny of nomination papers, said sources.

It may be noted here that the nomination for various posts of the RBA was held on March 5 and 6 and the verification was held on March 12. After verification, while Bal remained the sole candidate for the post of president, three contested for vice-president, two for general secretary and two were for treasurer. None contested for joint secretary post as all the nominations were rejected in scrutiny, revealed election officer Purna Chandra Pradhan. The final list of candidates will be notified on March 14 and voting is on  March 28.

But the reliable sources said Sadananda Sahoo has withdrawn his candidature from the post of general secretary. So the other candidate Akhaya Sahoo will also be elected to the post uncontested.

It may be noted here that usually the RBA election is held in the month of December every year but this year as per the guidelines of State Bar Council (one bar one election in one day through out the State), this year it has been deferred to March.
