The Bakul Foundation organised a ‘Gift a Plant’ drive under its My Tree Campaign on the Valentine’s Day on Saturday with its volunteers meeting passersby and requesting them to buy and gift plants to their beloved ones to mark the day.

“If we promise to be in love for lifetime, they why we shouldn’t gift a plant, which grows and does only good for us, to our beloved ones,” said Sulagna Sivaprava, a volunteer of the foundation. He said the foundation had set up two stalls in the city and with help of 10 different florists for the purpose. A total of 200 plants were sold on Saturday.

“Our basic idea is to bring a cultural change where people will think of buying a sapling instead of gift or a flower bouquet before gifting,” said Alok Mohanty, another volunteer.

Madhumoy, a bought a sapling for his valentine, said, “This gift will remain as a mark of growth of our relationship.” The main objective of the My Tree Campaign is to promote gifting and planting trees as a cultural practice where it becomes a part of the everyday lives of people.
