Bakrid, which signifies the festival of sacrifice, was celebrated with usual gaiety in Brajrajnagar, Belpahar, Bandhbahal, Banharpali and other rural pockets of the district on Friday.
According to reports available here, thousands of Muslims thronged Hatlipara, Jamira, Baghmunda, Panchpara, Pukhrasala and Station Para mosques and performed namaz. Besides, namaz prayers were also offered in Idgah of Kuttabaga Brajrajnagar in the morning. They also embraced one another and exchanged greetings.
A researcher, Amzad Badsah, said, “A family of five to six members sometimes get five kg to 10 kg of meat on the day; hence, we thought of helping those who are not lucky enough to get the sacrificial meat. This time we have special prayers for all those who have passed away and got injured in Mecca.” Muslim children greeted each other on the occasion near Hatlipara Mosque at Jharsuguda.
