Bail plea of MlA Biswal rejected

The Special CBI CJM Court here rejected the bail plea of arrested Choudwar-Cuttack BJD MlA Pravat Ranjan Biswal, who is arrested for his alleged involvement in chit fund scam, after he was produced by the CBI in court on Saturday.

Though Biswal’s counsel Anup Senapati appealed to the court to grant him bail on health grounds, the court did not agree to the plea.

The prosecution lawyers argued Biswal belongs to the ruling party and if he granted bail, he can tamper with the evidence and influence the witnesses and the investigations.

Biswal was admitted to the Capital Hospital on Friday night after preliminary medical examination by the Jharpada Special Jail doctor.

Though the CBI had taken him on a four-day remand which was to end on Saturday, he was produced before the CBI court by the Central investigating agency on Friday.

Biswal’s lawyer had prayed to the court to admit him to the Capital Hospital as he is unwell. After hearing both the parties, the court had sent Biswal to the Jharpada jail and instructed the Jail Superintendent to conduct a health checkup and shift him to the hospital if required.

The CBI had arrested Biswal on Monday for his alleged links with chit fund firm Seashore Group.
