Bahrain Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa has extended financial help Dana Majhi, who carried his wife’s body on his shoulders for 12 km after the Kalahandi District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), where the woman died, allegedly failed to provide an ambulance to carry the body.

“His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa read about the man, who carried his wife’s body for 12 km after the hospital where she died allegedly failed to provide an ambulance for her to be sent back to their village. The Premier was so upset by the news that he felt he had to do something to help,” Gulf Daily News reported.

It was reported that the PM came to know about the incident after reading an article published in the Gulf News’ sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej. “The Prime Minister’s office contacted Bahrain’s Indian Embassy, and, in an extraordinary humanitarian gesture, has donated a sum of money to help the man and his family,” the report said.

Dana Majhi’s wife Amang Dei (42), died of TB at the Kalahandi DHH at Bhawanipatna. When Majhi asked for a hearse for transporting the body, a hospital staff allegedly told him to make arrangements to take the body on his own.

Meanwhile, an eight-member fact-finding team of the BJP headed by MlA Rabi Nayak on Sundayvisited Dana Majhi’s Melghar village under Thuamul Rampur block in Kalahandi district and met him.

The team would prepare a detailed report and submit it to the BJP State president, said BJP vice-president Sameer Mohanty.

Earlier in the day, saffron party activists gheraoed the Kalahandi CDMO office protesting against his clean chit to the officials allegedly responsible for the entire shocking episode.

Besides, Congress activists led by former Union Minister Bhakta Charan Das took out a Padayatra from Melghar to Bhawanipatna on Sunday decrying the State Government’s failure to ensure social security to tribals.
