Threatens to gherao Naveen Nivas
Senior Congress leader Tara Prasad Bahinipati on Saturday accused BJD president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik of instigating ruling party leaders and workers of Jeypore to launch a murderous attack on his brother, nephew and son late on April 10 night after the first-phase poll.
Addressing a Press conference here, Bahinipati, the Congress contender against Minister Rabi Narayan Nanda for the Jeypore Assembly seat, alleged that though ten days have passed the police were yet to arrest the accused. The accused are moving in broad day light in the Jeyopre town, he said.
“A group of six local BJD leaders, including BJD district president Kuni Adhikari, Banti Nanda and Runa Sahu, entered into the Room-217 of Madhumati Hotel at
Jeypore at about 1 am and attacked my kin with sharp edged weapons while they were sleeping,” Bahinipati alleged. He informed that the injured are now undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Vishakhapatnam.
“Police are yet to arrest the accused. It is disappointing that the Chief Minister who also holds the Home Department charge is giving protection to his party workers and Minister Nanda despite close-circuit camera footage proves the attack,” he lamented.
Stating that an FIR has been registered against the Minister, his son Pintu Nanda and some other BJD workers, Bahinipati threatened that if the accused were not arrested within 48 hours, people of Jeypore and Koraput would be forced to gherao the Naveen Nivas here.
