Bagchi urged to set up cancer hosp in native B'ngir

Many things now come in social media before mainstream media. Same thing has also happened in case of proposed cancer hospital in Bhubaneswar with donation from Subroto Bagchi and his wife Sushmita whose birthplace is Balangir district.

It was obvious for people of Balangir and that of western Odisha to expect something big from Bagchi as he has got a resilient attachment to his birth place. Bagchi visits Government quarters where he was born when he comes to Patnagarh, a sub divisional headquarters of Balangir.

And his decision to establish a cancer hospital in Bhubaneswar disheartens people here as Bhubaneswar has got every facility as regards healthcare, whereas entire western Odisha, including Balangir, is lagging behind in this aspect. Hence a good number of people have expressed their reactions in social media and urged before both Government and Baghci to change place to Balangir. Even,  Bargarh could be considered as place for cancer hospital as this place has emerged as a cancer hotspot of State due to massive use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides in agriculture sector.

“Everything should not be concentrated at Bhubaneswar. The Government should start thinking uniform development of State in all fronts so that people here will maintain solidarity with Government which is not there now in this region,” suggested Sapan Mishra, a social activist of western Odisha.

There are hundreds of such postings in social media now, particularly after proposed cancer hospital at Bhubaneswar with lion’s share of fund from Bagchi couple’s donation.   People here also protest affiliation of law colleges of western Odisha to that of new MS Law University in Cuttack. Veteran Congress leader and MLA Narasingha Mishra proposed to establish a law university in Balangir in place of Cuttack.
