The newly-formed Odisha Skill Development Authority (OSDA), aimed at ensuring quality skill training standards, became operational on Monday with skill Czar Subroto Bagchi assuming office as its Chairman.
Bagchi, who is accorded the rank of a Cabinet Minister in the State, has started the work.
Bagchi sought to see the situation in all the 30 districts of the State to get first-hand understanding of the initiative on the ground and submit his recommendations, officials said.
On the basis of these recommendations, a detailed programme will be worked out and the OSDA will guide, implement, coordinate and oversee all skill development programmes in the State.
Bagchi, co-founder of IT services company, Mindtree, will report directly to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who had on April 29 in the State Assembly announced his name as OSDA boss, officials said.
The OSDA will bring convergence amongst skill development programmes across departments and create a momentum for thousands of young boys and girls of the State to receive skill training in a professional manner, sources said.
The Chief Minister has expressed the hope that the skill development training will benefit families to secure better livelihood.
