Bagala land: HC seeks reply from 23 parties

Published on:

The Orissa High Court on Monday issued notices to as many as 23 parties seeking reply over the sale of the Bagala Dharmasala land in Puri town.

The parties include the six buyers, Puri Konark Development Authority, Odisha Bridge Construction Corporation, Puri Municipality and Shree Jagannath Temple Administration.

While the Puri Collector and Tehsildar have filed replies in the case, the court asked the petitioner to submit a counter reply.

The court was hearing a PIL filed by BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra, who has claimed in the petition that the land belongs to Lord Jagannath under the Amrutamanohi status.

Patra has sought quashing of the alienation of the properties of Lord Jagannath and subsequent sale of 2.574 acre of Bagala Dharmasala land to six persons by the Collector. He claims that the sale of the land was illegal as it violated the provisions of the Temple Act, 1955.
