Cash and other valuables worth over Rs 1 lakh were stolen from the hundi (donation box) of the Mahakali Temple at Kharoda village of Badamba block on Saturday night.
As per reports, chief servitor of the temple, Ananta Dehury, first noticed that the cement concrete hundi had been broken while he came to the temple for performing daily rituals of the goddess.
He found that the hundi was broken from upside and only a few coins were left in it. He immediately informed the matter to the village Sarpanch; and later, an FIR was lodged with the Badamba police.
The police visited the spot for an inquiry although nobody was arrested. The locals said the donation box had not been opened for over two years and demanded that police nab the culprits soon.
