Bad roads: Koira locals stage blockade

Published on:

Residents of Koira have launched an indefinite strike with road blockade in at least eight locations demanding immediate construction of two main roads, due to which the all transaction in Koira came to grinding halt.

The residents on March 30 had intimated to the district administration about their decision to launch an indefinite strike with demand of immediate construction of two roads. Two former Bonei MlAs like Bhimasen Choudhury and Janardhan Dehuri took lead role in the movement. CPM leader and sitting Bonei MlA laxman Munda announced his support to this strike.

The two roads are Rengalbeda to lahunipara via Koira and Koira to Kaleiposh via Tensa and Barsuan. These are lifelines of the mineral rich Koira area.

Due to plying of thousands of heavy vehicles, for carrying the minerals from these two areas, these two roads have turned dilapidated.

"Since construction of these two roads has been a long standing demand of the people of Koira, there is large scale resentment over delay in the work. Even after sanction of funds from the District Mineral Fund, the work is not carried out,” lamented former MlA Choudhury
