A low pressure area is very likely to form over the north Andaman Sea around October 10. It is likely to become more marked and move west-northwestwards towards the south Odisha and north coastal Andhra Pradesh coast during subsequent four to five days, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Wednesday.
As per IMD’s GFS model, the system is likely to cross the coast around October 15. On the other hand, the ECMWF model indicates that the system may approach Visakhapatnam-Kakinada coasts around October 15. If system intensifies into a cyclonic storm, it would be named as ‘Cyclone Jawad’. The IMD in its ‘North Indian Ocean Extended Range Outlook for Cyclogenesis’ issued on September 30 had forecast formation of two low pressure areas over the Bay of Bengal between October 8 and 14. “Models are indicating development of a fresh low pressure area (LPA) during first half of second week (October 8 to 14) over west central and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal and another LPA over east central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andaman Sea during later part of week 2,” the IMD had said. Notably, the 1999 Super Cyclone, Cyclone Phailin (2013), Cyclone Hudhud (2014) and Cyclone Titli (2018) hit State in month of October.
