The Commissionerate Police have started a manhunt to nab the abductors of a one and  a-half-year-old girl, who was rescued by the police on Saturday night from Adala village under the Gadasigoda police limits in Khordha district.

According to reports, some unidentified persons had abducted the girl, daughter of a city-based businessman, from the Palasuni area under the Mancheswar police limits on Saturday.

After coming to know of his daughter’s disappearance, her father had lodged a complaint at the local police station, basing on which the police registered a case and launched an investigation.

Police sources said the accused persons after abducting the girl had kept her in an undisclosed house at Adala. While the culprits were demanding a ransom of `15 lakh from the girl’s parents to release her, they were chased by the villagers who came to know about their demands. The villagers later rescued the girl and handed her over to the local police in Puri who, in turn, contacted the Mancheswar police to rescue the girl from the district.

Meanwhile, the police have identified the accused as Rama Maharana and Sameer Patra, both 22 years of age. They were working as carpenters at a businessman’s house.

Twin City Commissioner of the Police Dr RP Sharma said the police have taken the issue seriously and formed five teams to search for the accused.

The police had suspected the culprits would have been familiar with the victims family the way the kidnapping was framed.
