A four-year old girl, who was forced to stay alone in a confined house for the last six months by her mother, was finally rescued on Monday here.

The Ruchika Childline and the Mancheswar police rescued the girl from an apartment from Kalarangha and sent her to the Childline.

According to reports, the mother, who works in a private hospital in the city, used to go to work by locking the girl in the house.

On Monday, the girl shouted through the window attracting attention of the passersby who in turn informed the Ruchika Childline and the Mancheswar police for her rescue.

The Childline staff along with Khordha Child Welfare Committee (CWC) members and Mancheswar police rushed to the spot.

As per the direction of the Bhubaneswar ADM Abanikanta Patnaik, they broke open the lock of the door and rescued the girl.

"We came to know from the house owner and the girl herself that she was subjected to remain in confinement for the last six months. We contacted her mother, but she told us that she couldn't come. So, we were forced to break open the lock," said Khordha CWC member Benudhar Das.

The girl also informed that her mother used to lock her in a room and go for duty as she is a little bit naughty.

"The woman and her husband were staying in the house along with the girl. But we don't see her husband for the last six months. We inquired from the woman and she told us that her husband has gone for some training," said Jenamani, the house owner.

She added that she had warned the woman either to make alternative arrangement or to leave the house.
