'Babula consciously avoiding presence'

In a fresh twist in the mysterious missing of late freedom fighter laxmi Indira Panda’s grandson Babula Panda, DGP KB Singh on Tuesday said that Panda is consciously avoiding his reappearance.

In another shocking revelation, Singh said criminal cases are pending against Babula Panda. “What so far I could gather is that he is consciously avoiding his presence,” the DGP told reporters.

Singh further said that Babula might have gone somewhere over a quarrel with his brother. “There was a quarrel between Babula and his brother. His brother scolded him as to why he left his mother and sister at the railway station for which they boarded different trains. I think Babula might have gone somewhere in anger over the issue,” he said.

“We tracked Babula and his mobile phone was last seen in the Mancheswar area (of Bhubaneswar) on April 18. After that, he has diverted the calls to a lady’s number. We have called the lady and interrogated her, but she has shown unawareness about the incident,” the DGP added.

Notably, Babula, son of Surendra Panda and Sujata Panda, who belong to Koraput, has gone missing after being separated from his parents at the Bhubaneswar railway station.

The family had been invited to attend a programme at the Raj Bhavan here on April 16 where Prime Minister Narendra Modi felicitated them as the descendants of freedom fighter laxmi Indira Panda.

The BJP has alleged that BJD leaders have hand behind the disappearance of Babula to malign the BJP as the Koraput freedom fighter’s family was invited for felicitation by the Prime Minister.

“Former BJD MlA Rabi Nanda has given Rs 50,000 to the freedom fighters’ family after they were felicitated by the Prime Minister. Why he had not provided any support to the family earlier and they (BJD) leaders are now stating a dharna at the Sub-Collector’s office instead of searchi him. All these establish that they have abducted Babula,” alleged BJP vice-presiddent Sameer Mohanty. He demanded that the phone calls of Nanda and Babula be tracked by the police to establish the truth. He demanded that police release Babula from BJD goons as his life is in danger.
