With the starting of the ULB election process, speculations are made regarding the Chairman seat of Athagarh NAC.
As this time, there will be direct election to the post of Chairman, the parties are faced with a difficult task of picking up suitable candidates. Especially for the ruling BJD in which there are several contenders, the task is all the more tough.
This time, the post of Chairman has remained reserved for the general category women. However, about half a dozen aspirants from BJD have applied to local MLA cum Minister RanendraPratap Swain for ticket so far.
Among the aspirants two postgraduate holders namely Subhasmita Das of Ward number five and Babita Das of Ward number seven have high stakes. Now this has become a matter of discussion as both are equally competent.
Babita Das is the Editor of "AthagarhPrahari," a weekly newspaper published from here, while Subhasmita is working as a renowned teacher in a local private high school.
Since most of the denizens of Athagarh are intelligent and politically sound, the party would take into considerations all aspects while choosing one for the Chairperson post, said sources.
