A group of farmers of Saradanga gram panchayat under Khaira block staged a dharna in front of the district Civil Supplies Office on Monday, alleging harassment from miller and demanding change of the miller of the society at Mirzapur. They alleged that the miller only was not only cutting 10-16 kg of paddy in each quintal procured from them but also was not buying their produce despite issuing tokens.
At times the miller buys only 200-300 quintals per day and for the reason their tokens get cancelled, they further alleged. After learning about the complaints of the aggrieved farmers, the CSO held discussions with the farmers as well as the miller.
The CSO informed the farmers that their paddy would be bought within two days and further the department would consider their demand for change of miller after an inquiry into their allegations.
