The District Headquarters Hospital here has received five more dialysis machines to cater to the patients' need. The number of units available in the DHH for dialysis has gone up to 15 with the latest addition.
These machines are installed and operationalised and two of them while are specifically kept for patients suffering from Hepatitis B and C. The rest are for the patients suffering from normal l kidney related ailments requiring dialysis.
Reports said on an average while 30-35 patients visit the DHH for receiving dialysis treatment, earlier they had to wait in a long queue even for days for their turn in the want of an adequate number of machines.
Although 15 dialysis machines are installed, unfortunately the DHH doesn’t have an adequate number of beds. Patients need dialysis and after the treatment they are kept in observation in the medicine wards for the same reason. But inadequate number of beds is a handicap.
Most importantly, the DHH neither has a Nephrology Department nor a nephrologist.
In the meanwhile demands are made by the residents of the district for a nephrology department along with a specialist and facility for shunt graft catheter.
