B'swar DHH diarrhoea ward has only 2 rooms

Published on:

The diarrhoea ward in the campus of the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) is struggling with multiple deficiencies.

While there are only two rooms having accommodation for only eight beds, four each in two rooms, 4 other beds lie on verandah.

Due to want of adequate number of beds most of the time it is seen patients are lying on the ground.

The situation turns acute during monsoon season when a spurt of diarrhoea patients is experienced.

Two days ago while as many as 38 patients  either afflicted  or with complaints  of loose motion and vomiting while admitted in the ward there was no space to accommodate them. Most of them received treatment lying on the floor. Besides bed issue, complaints were received that most time no doctor is seen in the ward and on the other hand medicine specialists on call attend the patients.

Residents opine that only 12 beds for diarrhoea ward for  entire district are just insufficient to cater to the need.

The in-charge medical officer, admitting paucity of space to accommodate beds said that there was proposal  to shift extra number of patients to the TB ward.

“We are considering arrangement of accommodation in the TB hospital when there is more inflow of patients affected with diarrhoea.

Accordingly, efforts are underway to examine the feasibility and ready rooms and beds and other suitable place to accommodate patients of diarrhoea affected in case of surge in such cases, he said.
