Adolescents through the ‘teen clubs’ have taken an initiative to fight stigma and social taboos related to the menstrual issues of teens in the slums in Brahampur city. NGO Youth for Social Development (YSD) has started a “Kishori Shakti” campaign in this regard. The girls are made aware of the stigma related to menstruation and also how to access safe menstrual products and maintain hygiene during periods, said Chandan Kumar Sahu of YSD.The YSD has a roadmap to sensitise more than 1,000 adolescent girls in 40 slums.
Besides menstrual hygiene, also awareness is created on child marriage, violence against women and girls, life, employability skills, leadership skills and above all for gender parity in the society.
