B'pur activist launches anti-polythene drive

Brahmapur-based NGO Aryabhatta Foundation founder and environmentalist Sudhir Rout has started a campaign against polythene and one time used plastic.

It is quite noteworthy that the foundation led by Rout along with wonderful dedicated volunteers has been tirelessly working in the realm of environmental protection by planting thousands of trees every year and taking their care, besides creating awareness regarding the need for afforestation and urging the public to avoid using water bodies as dumping yards.

“Every one of us can contribute towards the enrichment of environment by carrying cotton bags to the market as we did a couple of decades ago which we can revert to effortlessly,” said Rout with a humble appeal to public. Mention may be made that, in a calamity-prone Ganjam district, several hills had turned barren due to recurring cyclones and indiscriminate felling of trees for widening of roads in the last two decades. However, one after another the hills are reportedly regaining their green cover, thanks to the determined efforts of Rout, who has been on a mission to rekindle life into them by planting trees every year.

Notably, this sexagenarian green activist had conducted a solo one-month long 10-km foot march in Brahmapur city in Ganjam district every day to create  awareness about the need for environmental conservation during the Work.
