The Jaleswar police on Wednesday rescued a woman of Sasanbad, who was subjected to inhuman torture by a group of people over elopement of a girl of the village with a youth.
The victim was allegedly mentally tortured and also physically assaulted by the girl’s family. Police after rescuing her admitted the victim to the District Headquarters Hospital.
Sources said the girl had eloped with a distance relative of the woman Intaz Saha about 10 days ago. The girl’s father Sk Afsar Ali and his family members held her responsible for the girl’s elopement.
Taher Sah, the maternal uncle of the victim, tried to pacify the girl’s family and rescue her from their clutches but failed. Finding no way other out, Saha informed police.
