A day after an under-trial prisoner (UTP) was allegedly killed by a murder convict in the Balasore District Jail, two warders of the jail were suspended on Monday for negligence in duty.
Reports said Chief Warder of the jail Sanjeev Panda and Warder Dilip Mohapatra were put under suspension. Besides, DIG (Prisons) Gopabandhu Mallick reached the jail to investigate the incident.
On Sunday, under-trial prisoner Ramachandra Das had been attacked by Sharat Giri, a prisoner serving life sentence in the jail. Following the attack, Das sustained deep injuries in head and was immediately rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital where he succumbed to the injuries.
Even as the exact reason behind the attack was yet to be ascertained, Superintendent of District Jail Subhakanta Mishra said that the convict had found a stone somewhere in the jail and hit the under-trial prisoner in the head.
