In connection with the murder of a 36- year-old truck owner Manas Das that occurred on September 1, the Sahadevkhunta police arrested a youth here.
The accused was identified as Prasant Behera (31) of Balia under Sahadevkhunta police station.
Sahadevkhunta IIC Jayant Behera, besides stating Prasant as one of the accused persons, said six others including the mastermind Samsan Mahapatra were at large.
The mastermind is Samsan Mahapatra and the motive behind murder is past rivalry, mainly on two issues.
Samsan was suspecting that Manas was having illicit affairs with his wife, besides there was enmity between them over cable network distribution.
Prasant was apprehended from Dhobsila of Nilgiri area where he was hiding following a tipoff. Police said all other accomplices involved in the crime were identified from CCTV footage installed at several private places and other evidences.
“Samsang, a history sheeter is the prime accused. The motive behind murder is previous grudge on account of various reasons,” IIC Behera said.
Notably, on September 1 Manas, a resident of Phiringipatna, was gunned down by unidentified assailants at around 11.30 pm. He was shot from a point blank range.
