The State Government would set up Doppler radars in Baleswar and Sambalpur for accurate weather updates. This was informed by Revenue & Disaster Management Minister Sudam Marndi in reply to a question in the Assembly on Thursday.
Marndi said Doppler radars have already been set up at Gopalpur and Paradip to get advance information on weather, enhancing the lead-time so essential for saving
lives and property in the event of natural disasters associated with severe weather and cyclones.
Besides, a mobile application is being used by the department to alert people about lightning and heat wave in their localities, the Minister informed, adding that the advance information about Cyclone Fani had been provided to people through a mass messaging system to remain alert.
