B’pur residents submit memo for CC road, drain

Published on:

Around 50 residents, mostly senior citizens, of Kalinga Vihar under Dura Gram Panchayat have submitted a memorandum recently to the Executive Engineer of Rural Development here, demanding construction of a 30-foot concrete road with drains in both sides. Kalinga Vihar is located very close to the city at Berhampur-Gopalpur main road. There are over 300 people residing in the area.

An approach road that emanates from Dura-Pathara Junction Main Road and stretches up to 500- meter via Nataraj Niwas Apartment is yet to be made a concrete road.

In spite of the repeated demands made by the local public to transform the road to a concrete one, their demand goes unheeded, said a resident.

The kutcha road puts the local residents, particularly, the senior citizens and school going students, in inconvenience during rainy season, the memorandum said. The road also gets water-logged during the rainy season as the lane does not have concrete drains on both sides. So it becomes difficult for the local residents to use the road either on foot or by two wheelers, the memorandum pointed out.

The residents also submitted a copy of the memorandum to the Ganjam district Collector and local Sarapanch for necessary action.

Meanwhile, sources confided that an allocation of Rs 30 lakh for undertaking various development works lies idle in Brahmapur due to lack of interest among the staff of the RD Department.
