B’pur residents complain of mosquito menace

Published on:

Residents of Brahmapur have complained of large-scale mosquito menace in the city, leading to fear of outbreak of vector-borne diseases.

The residents allege that hordes of mosquitoes, including big black ones, are swarming into the homes even at daytime and the mosquito coils and repellants are not having any effect on them.

They allege that the Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) is not taking any remedial measures despite repeated complaints by them. They said the situation would worsen further in the monsoon season. The civic body is carrying out symbolic fogging drives with Tifa machines once in a blue moon, but no sanitisatisation drive is being undertaken to stop the breeding of mosquitoes.

Lawyer and BJP leader Manoj Patnaik recently met BeMC officials to lodge a complaint, but they said that they are busy in tax collections, which would set a record this year.Patnaik has urged the BeMC to take immediate remedial measures within one week, failing which he would sit on a dharna in front the BeMC Commissioner’s residence at night.
