Ahead of the elections, the State Government on Monday increased the salary of Ayurvedic, homoeopathic and Unani doctors appointed on contractual basis under the Health and Family Welfare Department and AYUSH doctors working in mobile health units from Rs 12,000 to Rs 17,000 per month.
The doctors would get this hiked salary with effect from April 1, 2014, said Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Damodar Rout. The State has a total of 1,485 sanctioned AYUSH doctor posts. Against this, 737 Ayurvedic doctors, 595 homoeopathic doctors and five Unani doctors are working in various Govt health centres. Similarly, 180 AYUSH doctors are working against a sanctioned strength of 240 for the mobile health units.
In yet another decision, the State Government has also hiked the monthly stipend of House Surgeons serving in all the three Government medical colleges and hospitals since 2013-14. They would now get Rs 15,000 per month instead of Rs 13,335. The hiked stipend would remain enforceable for coming three years, Dr Rout said.
