A'wadi workers hit street, demand salary hike

With the State Government allegedly overlooking their longstanding demands repeatedly, thousands of Anganwadi workers on Tuesday took to the street here at Mahatma Gandhi Marg and demanded hike in their salaries.  Maintaining that they are working at the grassroots level and playing a major role in successfully implementing different Central and State Government welfare schemes, Nikhil Odisha Anganwadi Karmi Sangha general secretary Harapriya Swain alleged that they are being deprived of basic facilities from the Government.

“We are discharging our duties with utmost care and in remote areas. Despite playing a major role in ensuring fruitful implementation of different Government schemes, we are yet to get minimum facilities,” rued Swain. Organising the rally in front of the Assembly, they demanded salary of Rs 15,000 per month for Anganwadi Workers, pension of Rs 3,000 per month and provision of 100 per cent promotion to the post of Supervisors. A delegation met Women and Child Development Minister Usha Devi and apprised her about their issues. They also submitted a 15-point charter of demands to her seeking her early intervention.
