At least seven dowry torture cases are registered in a month under Rourkela Police District.
Sources revealed that between January 2018 and November 2021 (47 months), a total of 332 dowry torture cases have been registered in different police stations under Rourkela Police District. And, out of them, total 88 cases have been registered in the Mahila Police Station (PS).
As per reports, while 76 cases were registered in 2018, 83 cases were registered in 2019, 91 cases were registered in 2020 and till November 25, 82 cases have been registered.
Interestingly, during Corona prone year 2020, the cases have risen faster. Similarly next to Mahila Police Station maximum cases of 58 were registered in Uditnagar PS during these periods. Bonai police station has the third largest registered cases of 30. While 26 cases each were registered in Sector-7 and Raghunathpalli PS, 16 cases each were registered in Tikayatpalli and Koira PSs. 11 cases each were registered in Bondamunda and BrahmaniTaranga PSs , 9 cases in Jhirpani PS, 7 cases each in Plant Site and Bisra PSs, 6 cases in Chhend PS, 5 cases each in Sector-15 and Lahunipara PSs, 4 cases in Lathikata PS and 3 cases registered each in Sector 3 and Sector-19 PSs.
Significantly while in tribal dominated Gurundia only one case was registered during past 47 months, not a single case was registered in Chandiposh and K. Bolanga PSs.
The experts say mostly in tribal and downtrodden families the cases of dowry torture cases are seen rarely while they are frequent in rich and urban based families.
