Auto-rickshaw drivers seem to have a field day here. There are many instances when the auto-rickshaws could be seen ferrying passengers more than the permissible limit by openly flouting the Covid rules but no vigil is kept to prevent them.
Overcrowding in auto-rickshaw has become a common sight. Inaction by the officials prods them to blatantly flout the regulation under the very nose of the enforcement authorities. It is seen the passengers in the auto-rickshaw are jostling for space inside jam-packed autos. Some of them are seated precariously at the edges of the auto driver’s seat unaware of the dangers they are exposed to.
Non compliance of rules by the errant drivers endangers the lives of the innocent passengers travelling in overloaded autos, said a commuter here. However, the auto drivers can be cut to size only if the enforcement authorities implement the ruling effectively, he added.
