An auto-rickshaw driver was imposed a fine of Rs 35,500 and sent to jail for drunk driving and violating different rules of the Motor Vehicles Act in Sundargarh district.
Binod Patra of Sundergarh town was caught by transport officials while he was ferrying schoolchildren. The officials found that Patra was under the influence of alcohol. Also, his vehicle did not have fitness permit. Above all, he was not having a valid driving licence.
Additional Transport Officer Sasmita Behera fined Patra Rs 10,000 for drunk driving, Rs 15,500 for being unable to present the fitness and permit documents of the vehicle and Rs 10,000 for driving without a DL.
Later, Patra was sent to jail.
