The Town police on Wednesday arrested ten persons, including eight women, on the charge of attacking the family members of State team cricketer Sarita Meher and ransacking her residence.

On January 5, some persons, including women, had attacked Sarita’s residence at Teligothapada armed with sharp weapons.

While Sarita escaped unhurt as she was not present in her house, her father, brother and friend were injured during the attack. It was alleged that residents of neighbouring Baijayantipada village were involved the incident.

Following the incident, Sarita had filed a complaint at the local police station and demanded security for her family.

Although the exact reason behind the attack is not clear, a police team led by Balangir SP K Siva Subramani visited the residence of the cricketer to take stock of the situation following the attack.

Notably, Sarita is a regular player of the State women’s cricket team.
