Kendrapada SP Satish Kumar Gajbhiye on Tuesday suspended Armed Police Reserve (APR) constable Sumant Jena, who was arrested by the Patkura police on March 22 on the charge of attacking his wife with a sharp weapon for dowry.
SP Gajbhiye said Sumant, who was officiating at the Choudakulat police outpost under the Pattamundai police station, attacked his wife Subhadra following an argument between the two as Subhadra failed to bring money amounting to Rs4 lakh as dowry from her parents.
later, Sumant threw his injured wife in a critical condition on the village road. She was sent to the District Headquarters Hospital by some locals. Sumant had demanded money from his wife to construct a building.
