Attack on Mins: BJP's silent protest today

Published on:

The BJP on Saturday said it would stage silent protests on Sunday against the recent eggs pelting at Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram and Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh.

The BJP said the party would also protest against the rape and murder of a widow in Dhenkanal district.

BJP vice-president Sameer Mohanty said that after the panchayat elections, the BJD has become bloodthirsty. The ruling party is determined to resort to violence against their political rivals and all those who differ with the opinion of Naveen Patnaik.

The patronage provided by BJD Ministers to anti-socials have endangered the life and dignity of people. But the BJP would continue to fight for the rights of the people, Mohanty said.

Meanwhile, in a bid to control the damage, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday condemned the eggs pelting incidents and said there is no place for such activities in democracy.

Ironically, Biju Yuva Janata Dal (BYJD) president Amaresh Patri had on Friday threatened that BYJD activists might hurl eggs at BJP national president Amit Shah during his upcoming visit to the State in protest against the Centre’s alleged indifferent attitude towards Odisha’s demand of granting it Special Category State status and for not resolving the Mahanadi water dispute.

Reacting to the BYJD chief’s statement, the BJP said the BJD is on a violence mode after it lost several seats in the last panchayat elections.

“We will continue to unmask the ruling party’s undemocratic and violent attitude. Both the Congress and the BJD are trying to threaten us, but we will not be deterred by such threats. We are committed to work for interests of the people in the State,” Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) State president Tankadhar Tripathy said.
