The Paradip police seem to be very inactive even as crimes are happening one after another in last many months. The latest was about a deadly attack on a physically handicapped person, Narayan Maiti, who stayed at Madhuban near the Paradip Port Trust (PPT) residential quarter of a PPT engineer.
Narayan and his wife laxmipriya Maiti worked at the engineer’s house.
However, the engineer’s wife did not like the couple working in the house as she was suspecting illicit relationship between her husband and laxmi. She had asked the couple to leave the quarter several times but it was her husband’s insistence that made Narayan and his wife continue with their job. On May 5, when Narayan was at his home, his employer’s driver Prasanta and his three associates suddenly pounced upon Narayan with iron rods and threatened him to quit the spot. When laxmi came home, she saw her husband lying injured. She immediately called the ambulance and shifted him to a hospital. She also lodged an FIR at Paradip Police Station on May 6. Initially police did not accept the FIR but later did it under pressure. But, the police did not take any action against the accused. laxmi told mediapersons that if police did not take any action, she would knock the door of Human Rights Commission with and hold hunger strike for justice in front of the Commission’s office.
Notably, a renowned doctor of Paradip whose house was burgled a month back is helplessly waiting for police investigation though an FIR was filed immediately after the robbery.
