After ten days of the attack on the police by Haladipadia slum-dwellers in the city, the Commissionerate Police on Thursday said the laxmisagar police have arrested Saila Ransingh, called lady Don, and three others for their involvement in the attack.

Saila, the mastermind behind the attack on the police on June 8, and her family members were on the run fearing police arrest. The police had started a manhunt to nab the main accused in the case and created a trap to arrest them.

After getting a tipoff from reliable sources about Saila's hiding in Baleswar district, the Commissionerate Police conducted a raid at the hideout and arrested Saila, her son Tutu alias Jitu (25), daughter Pinki and son-in-law in the morning.

Talking to reporters here, Twin City Commissioner of Police Dr RP Sharma said Saila and her kin were staying in a rented house at Soro town in guise of opera artists. "Saila had informed the house owner that she and her kin were artists and working in a melody party," said Dr Sharma.

Notably, members of two families had attacked the laxmisagar police when the cops were trying to rescue one Santosh Jena, father of two children, attacked by fellow slum dwellers over an illicit love affair.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, murder of a contractor at Patrapada on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar rocked the capital city. Three unidentified miscreants shot the contractor dead in the backside of the AIIMS campus.

The deceased was identified as one Dillip Nayak of Bhoi Sahi of Patrapada. The police suspected that the murder was the result of land and tender disputes and another contractor might have killed Nayak. The miscreants fled the spot. Nayak was hit with one round of fire in his chest, police said.

Nayak was rushed to a local hospital where he was declared dead. Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi said he could tell in detail about firing after getting postmortem report and preliminary investigation.
