The BJP State unit on Wednesday announced to observe a State-wide protest week from March first week against the rising cases of atrocities on women in the State.
“Women are not safe in the State. Starting from Tikiri primary school lady teacher Itishree Pradhan harassment and murder case to the harassment on three lady professors of the Ravenshaw University by their male colleagues, the State Government has failed to ensure justice to the victims and their family members,” senior party leader Surama Padhi told reporters here.
She also alleged that the Government has failed to constitute grievance committees as the per the Vishaka guidelines against sexual harassment of women at their workplaces.
“The State Commission for Women and the State Women and Child Development Department are acting like mute spectators. The ruling BJD too has failed to keep its ‘Maa Ku Samman’ slogan. Hence, an inquiry under the supervision of a High Court judge should be constituted to probe the cases of atrocity on women,” said Padhi. Party State secretary Pravati Parida, women wing president Simantini Jena and lekhashree Samantsinghar attended the meeting.
