The Patkura police on Friday arrested Sanjib Mandal of Kulagaon under the Nischintakoili police station in Kendrapada district on charge of looting money from ATMs by manipulating cards of several customers.
Police also seized Rs 28,000, a bike and 9 SBI ATM Cards from his possession, said Patkura PS IIC Annapurna Behera. A villager of Rasilabad, Jaiprakas Bhuiyan, had lodged an FIR alleging that an unknown person took his ATM card while he was counting withdrawn money at an ATM counter at Mahala and, later, returned a card which was not real. The person later withdrew Rs11,500 from his account using his ATM card, he alleged.
later, the same person came to the Garadpur ATM counter and made an attempt to swap the ATM card of another person. Though locals tried to nab him, the culprit managed to escape.
Acting on these complaints, the police conducted searches and managed to nab the culprit, Sanjib Mandal. Inquiry was still on, said the IIC.
