A team of armed police on Monday evening arrested Khuntakata Sarpanch Rajesh Nayak on charges of having committed several crimes in Kolkata.
According to sources, Nayak had won as Sarpanch in a bye-election after the elected Sarpanch resigned from his post just after winning the last PRI elections showing personal cause. As Nayak had criminal background, none dared filing nomination against him. Kolkata police had tried several times to arrest him with the assistance of local police, but in vain. However, this time, the Kolkata police were successful in arresting Nayak. They had not informed the Athagarh police about their raid on Nayak’s hideout.
